Your choices

Scout records which ads were shown and clicked, and what happened afterwards on the advertiser’s own site. You can tell it to stop recording anything about you. See the privacy policy for what is collected in the first place.

You are not opted out.

Opting out takes effect immediately for this browser, and — if Scout already holds a visitor reference for you — permanently on our servers as well.

What the opt-out actually reaches

Opting out does three separate things, and they do not all work for everyone. Rather than imply otherwise:

1. A signal your browser sends — works everywhere

If your browser or a privacy extension sends Global Privacy Control, Scout refuses to record anything on every request, with no cookie involved. This is the most reliable option by a wide margin, it survives clearing your cookies, and it applies to every site you visit rather than just ours. Firefox and Brave have it built in; Chrome and Safari need an extension.

2. A cookie on scoutdsp.com — works in some browsers

The button above sets a cookie called scout_optout, which Scout checks before recording. Because Scout’s measurement tags are loaded from an advertiser’s page rather than ours, that cookie counts as a third-party cookie, and Safari and Firefox block it entirely. In those browsers this part of the opt-out does nothing at all, which is why we would rather you used the signal above or relied on the next item.

3. A permanent record on our servers — works if we know you

Scout does not currently hold a visitor reference for this browser, so there is nothing on our servers to suppress under one. Scout only creates a reference when you click an ad it served; if you later click one, opt out again here and the server-side record will be made then.

What it cannot reach

The scout_vid and scout_cidvalues on an advertiser’s own site are stored by your browser under their domain, not ours. No page on scoutdsp.com is permitted to read or delete storage belonging to another site — that is a rule your browser enforces, and we are not going to pretend to work around it.

To clear those, use your browser’s “clear site data” or “forget about this site” control while on the advertiser’s site. Once you have opted out here, they stop being recorded against you in any case.

Blocking Scout outright

If you would rather Scout never loaded, block the domain scoutdsp.com in your ad blocker, privacy extension, or network-level blocklist. Nothing on a publisher or advertiser site depends on Scout loading, so blocking it will not break the pages you are reading.

Asking what we hold

Write to info@scoutdsp.com. Scout holds no name or email address to look you up by, so include your scout_vidvalue if you can find it — in your browser’s developer tools, under local storage, on the advertiser’s site. Without it we will most likely have nothing we can confidently identify as yours.
